Cancellation and refunds: what comes back to you
What a cancel costs depends only on the notice you give. More than a day ahead, the whole deposit comes back. Once she has left, it is kept.
To cancel means to say that the booking will not happen. A refund is money paid back to you. These two words go together, because a cancel is the moment a refund is decided.
With a deposit: three steps
- More than twenty-four hours before the booked hour: the whole deposit is refunded.
- Less than twenty-four hours before, while she has not left: half the deposit is kept, and half is refunded.
- After she has left: the whole deposit is kept.
Even then, two things can help you. If another guest books the hour you gave up, the whole deposit is refunded. And if you can show that the real loss was smaller than the part kept, only the smaller part is kept. You never owe damages.
Without a deposit
A cancel before she leaves costs nothing. A cancel after she has left costs the share of the price that her journey represents, and nothing more.
A change of date instead
